Mind Care Therapy: About Our Team

Real Therapists, Real People

We keep our practice small on purpose - smaller caseloads protect the quality of care we can offer and help our clinicians avoid burnout. We’re also intentional about who joins our team, choosing people whose clinical judgement we know and trust firsthand.

Rachel Johnson, LCSW

I believe that every person is full of potential, inherent worth and deserving of compassion and acceptance. I view the therapeutic process as a partnership that cannot exist without trust, patience, and empathy. I want you to truly feel heard, seen, and understood so that we can work together to meet the goals that you want to achieve. I aim to create a safe space to openly explore how you are feeling and what changes you want to see in your life, ultimately empowering you to take the steps to manifest that change into reality. I use an eclectic approach to therapy, tailoring my approach based upon your needs. I combine aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy, Trauma Focused therapy, Grief Counseling and Mindfulness to meet your specific needs.

Angela Cays, LPC

I’m Angela Cays, MS, LPC, E-RYT 500, and Reiki Master, and I’ve spent decades honing my counseling, education, and holistic wellness skills. Throughout my career, I’ve focused on empowering individuals through personal transformation, healing, and growth. As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT 500), I blend evidence-based therapeutic practices with holistic healing modalities to create a supportive, transformative and empowering experience for my clients and students. My approach includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness-based somatic therapy steeped in Buddhist Psychology, and the deep teachings of Yoga to understand, honor, and liberate all layers of our being as the foundation and evolution of our continuing empowerment or wellness journey. I work with a passion & interest in Internal Family Systems (IFS), which pairs with the mindful and somatic approach of observing the present moment and what part of us is coming forward from the past. Our work of clearing stress and trauma and arriving at our best selves involves realizing that our strengths often (or actually) come from our challenges. The practice is to notice and affirm the strengths while releasing the heaviness and remnants of this stress and trauma.

Specialties: Mindfulness Meditation, Buddhist Psychology, and the deeper teachings of Yoga to understand, honor and liberate all layers of our being (koshas) including the physical body, energy body, mental/emotional body, wisdom body (intuition), and bliss body/connection to all that is - Anandamaya Kosha, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Tapping, Somatic Practices including Breathwork (Pranayama), Yoga, Intuitive Movement

Services: My services include individual therapy for adolescents 14+, adults, and couples therapy. I’m passionate about facilitating workshops and group experiences that help people explore all layers of their being, awaken their intuition and life force energy, and experience deep moments of peace and expansion.

Other Interests:  Since 1996, yoga, mindfulness and meditation have been important in my life. In my free time, in addition to attending weekly yoga classes, mindfulness meditation group - Buddhist Sangha, church where I enjoy singing in the choir, and indoor cycling class; I have finally made my way back onto the dance floor to enjoy West Coast Swing dancing, along with some Hustle, Argentine Tango, Latin, and Ballroom. My husband, daughter, and dog fill out my home life with joys, support & growth edges. I also find refuge and joy in nature, tending to my garden of flowers and herbs outside and my indoor plants and watching the birds at my feeders in the Fall and Winter months. The sky, clouds, stars, and planets offer me perspective, support, connections, and inspiration.

There are many different reasons a person might seek therapy and I am here to learn from you your reason. I am a person-centered therapist who values the working relationship we will build together and use that relationship as the foundation of your therapeutic journey. Through the use of empathy, unconditional positive regard, and a strengths-based perspective, I take the time to get to know you deeply in order to better understand the way you see the world. From there, I help you to recognize maladaptive patterns and coping mechanisms that may be harming you and teach you healthy coping mechanisms. Drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and feminist theories, I work alongside you to develop tools that are intuitive and fit in your lifestyle to bring about sustainable change in your life.
